About Best Coast
My first goal at BCB is to create unique, and stand out jewelry at a fair, and affordable price.
I believe, passionately, that everyone should be able to feel cool as hell without going into debt, and that handmade jewlery should not be a privilege that is out of reach to most people.
BCB was born in Nampa, Idaho as 'Beet City Beads', a nod to my love of the sweet smell of sugar beets processing and the amalgamated sugar factory that was an infamous landmark throughout my life. If you've never smelled sugar beets being processed, think danky, musky, burnt peanut butter and rubber on a hot, humid day. Some say 'ew' I say 'hell yeah'. Don't yuck my yum.
During the early throes of covid in 2020, I desperately needed a hobby to keep myself from going into the deepest of darkies and I'd always had an interest in tactile arts and jewelry making. I had no idea what I was doing and had never done any sewing, crochet, or weaving of any kind. Through many youtube videos and curse words, I figured it out.
I wanted a dope earring collection. I wanted to make fun jewelry for my mom and grandma.
In 2022 my partner and I left Idaho for the wonderfully weird Wild West 🤙🏼 We sold our house and hit the road with two suitcases, an old Jeep, and Rooey James, our pittie. We landed, by accident (maybe fate) in Grayland, Washington. A tiny, rural, beach town just three blocks from the Pacific.
I wanted a brand update to reflect my new home, and because 'WEST COAST BEST COAST', Best Coast Beads came to be. Inspired by the ocean and forests I love to frolick in. Inspired by slugs, moss beds, the moon, beach combing, and mushrooms.
Beadwork is the closest I can, and will probably ever, get to meditation thanks to attention deficit. It provides a calm that I feel nowhere else, and I'm eternally grateful for the moments of silence and focus it allows me. My hands cramp, my fingers go numb, and it feels damn good. I slow down, I pay attention, I create something from start to finish that I am proud of.
I'm so excited to share it all with you.
Thank you for your support!
Love and Whimsy,
-Chels
